How did you and your husband meet?

We met through friends in common.

How did he propose?

On my birthday day at a beautiful lunch at our favourite restaurant ‘The Farm’ in Byron Bay.

What was your vision for your wedding day?

Relaxed, intimate and elegant.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

Pinterest mainly, the wedding planner was really helpful as well on giving really good ideas and alternatives.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

It was just love at first sight, when I try it on I knew it was perfect for me.

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

I had a really amazing experience with our wedding planner, because of Covid we had to postpone our wedding in Bali. But when we realised lockdown was over we decided to have a more intimate civil wedding and she make all our dreams come true very quickly.

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

With the floods, a few days before our wedding we did not know if we should cancel it or not but thanks to my husband I'm so glad we didn’t as everything went perfect on that day even the sun came out.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

The highlight was the ceremony when Peter's mum did a meditation, with the sun shining on our faces and nature all around, it bring us back to the present moment.

Is there anything you would do differently?

Im sure there was many things i could have done better but getting married to the love of my life make it all perfect.

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

Just enjoy every moment as everything goes so fast.

Extraordinary experience! When I arrived at the shop I felt very comfortable and taken care of. Helen was super helpful and accurate in everything I was looking for. All the gowns that she has in store are so beautiful and has so many different beautiful styles. Would totally recommend it to all the brides coming to or from Sydney!

How did you and your husband meet?

At a mutual friend’s birthday drinks at The Slip Inn.

How did he propose?

We went for a bike ride at Centennial Park, followed by a picnic under a tree by the lake and he proposed there during the picnic.

katrina_ben_wedding_bendooley_estate_gez_xavier_mansfield_photography_2018-159.jpg

What was your vision for your wedding day?

Country chic - stylish with a bit of country charm.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

Instagram, Pinterest, Wedding Magazines, other weddings we had attended.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

The elegant silhouette and the amazing beaded detail

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

We booked our venue 18 months out, which gave us a lot of time to plan and think about every detail. The journey was really enjoyable as we loved being able to create a wedding that reflected us as a couple.

katrina_ben_wedding_bendooley_estate_gez_xavier_mansfield_photography_2018-529.jpg

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

The seating plan was the biggest and hardest decision we had to make - we wanted everyone to be happy with where they were seated. We opted for long tables with no bridal table.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

Walking down the aisle and seeing Ben standing at the end waiting for me. His smiling face made me feel so happy and comfortable.

Also seeing all of our loved ones in the one place to celebrate our love with us was such an amazing feeling.

Is there anything you would do differently?

No - I wish I could re-live that day exactly how it was.

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

Make sure you spend your money on things that will make you and your guests have the most memorable day/night but don’t stress about the small stuff - it will all work out.

Take a moment with your husband during your wedding night to get away from the guests and appreciate what you have just achieved together - look from afar at all your guests enjoying themselves.

katrina_ben_wedding_bendooley_estate_gez_xavier_mansfield_photography_2018-654.jpg

My experience at Helen Rodrigues Bridal was fun and effortless. Helen and her team are so welcoming that from the moment I walked in on my first appointment I felt so special and in good hands.

They are extremely knowledgeable and experienced and offer just the right amount of advice in their premium service offering. I absolutely loved my gown, it fit perfectly and I felt like a princess.

I would highly recommend Helen Rodrigues Bridal to other brides - it is an experience I will remember and cherish forever.

Entertainment: Rinaldo Entertainment / Tobi Tobi co
Bridemaids: Bec and Bride

How did you and your husband meet?

Aaron and I met on tinder. I promise our life together and proposal gets better.

How did he propose?

We spent the day at a private beach off the mainland of Positano. We spent the day dipping in and out of the water and sipping cocktails til the sun came down. On the way back, Aaron had organised a private boat - where he got on one knee and proposed. The gentleman who was driving the boat caught everything on camera so it was a perfect memory.

LauraAaron-291.jpg

What was your vision for your wedding day?

We wanted everything to be elegant and classic. I always described it to Aaron as European/ old worldly. So we could feel like we were overseas somewhere. I guess a destination wedding would have been fun but we really wanted all of our family and friends to be there.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

Once we set our date at Zonzo Estate the inspiration flowed from there. The venue really speaks for itself so we didn’t want to go too overboard. I knew when I tried my Alon Livne gown the finer details would tie together. Having that old worldly feeling in mind I knew lots of foliage and candles were a must.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

It was definitely the sleeves. When I met Helen I told her I only wanted to try the Rita dress. I knew as soon as I saw it that it was going to be the one.

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

I have never been so sure on anything in my life. If I saw something that I loved, I didn’t hesitate. Aaron proposed and within 2 weeks we had set a date, venue and organised save the date cards. I come from a big family and have a big circle of friends and I was one of the last to get married - so deciding on hair, make-up, entertainment etc was easy. It’s like I had done the planning process 100 times before. Not such a bad thing, because I knew exactly what I wanted. I guess we were lucky that everything was ready to go in 6 months time.

LauraAaron-248.jpg

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

Nothing was too major when it came to deciding on things. I guess our guest list was limited to 140 people so that was hard. If I could’ve had 300 guests that would’ve been easier.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

Highlight of our day was walking down the aisle as Mr and Mrs Dillon. Sounds corny but there is something special about walking out hand in hand with your loved one with all of your family and friends surrounding you.

I also loved that I wore a different dress on the morning. That way when we arrived to Yarra Valley everyone saw my dress for the first time.

LauraAaron-533.jpg

Is there anything you would do differently?

Nothing at all. Everything was perfect, and even if it wasn’t I didn’t even notice.

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. People aren’t lying when they say the day goes so quickly. Try to enjoy the moment with your partner and take it all in.

LauraAaron-321.jpg

Helen and her team were a dream to deal with. From the first appointment to the emails in between the communication was always clear. Who would have thought trying/ buying a dress interstate would be so easy. Thank you for everything.

How did you and your husband meet?

Kieran and I met on a night out in Double Bay at a bar called Mrs Sippy. Kieran approached me and a friend after having a few too many drinks and the rest is history!

How did he propose?

We were away in the Hunter Valley for a friend’s wedding. Kieran decided to wake me up at 3am to surprise me and go on a hot air balloon. Although I wasn’t impressed by having to wake up at 3am, it was magical being up there. When we landed Kieran proposed in front of the hot air balloon which definitely made up for the early morning!

LK_00752.jpg

What was your vision for your wedding day?

Kieran and I both wanted our wedding to be fun and more like a party for all our family and friends to enjoy together. We both enjoy socialising with family and friends so for us we wanted our day to reflect that. We both enjoy socialising with family and friends so for us we wanted our day to reflect that. In terms of the styling of the day, I wanted a moody and romantic colour scheme. I love those types of colour so I was so happy I could incorporate that into our wedding.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

I did a lot of research through Instagram! I fortunately had attended a wedding that used She Designs as their stylist and knew I had to use them as well!

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I knew I wanted my dress from Helen Rodrigues as my sister and a few girlfriends had purchased their dresses from there and I knew it was such a great experience for them. I only tried on a handful of dresses and knew once I had put on the Alon Livne dress that it was the one for me. I wanted something elegant but unique and it ticked all the boxes.

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

My wedding planning journey was so much fun! I had a year and a half to plan which I felt was perfect for us. I wanted to really enjoy being engaged to Kieran and wanted to leave enough time to plan our wedding and not stress about it. I also had the most amazing team - Nina from She Designs and Angie (wedding planner) who made it so enjoyable to plan my wedding. They made sure I was stress-free throughout the whole process.

LK_00815.jpg

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

Location! We would have loved to have had a wedding overseas but decided we wanted all our family and friends to be able to be there so decided to go ahead with a Sydney wedding.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

The highlight of the day was seeing Kieran at the end of the aisle get emotional when he saw me. We both had so many emotions when we saw each other, which made us even more excited to be getting married.

LK_01010.jpg

Is there anything you would do differently?

Wouldn’t change anything!

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

To not stress about the things that don’t go to plan! I was told that so many times by other brides but sometimes you just can’t help it!

Also to take a moment with your husband to sit down together and take everything in! It goes so incredibly fast and it really is the best night of your life.

LK_00731.jpg

It was the best decision I made going to Helen to find my wedding dress. From the initial consultation to the last fitting, she made the experience so personal and enjoyable. She made sure everything was perfect and never rushed any of my appointments.

Sam & Sarah attempted to use local and small businesses where ever possible, as it was important to them as a couple to support rural Australians.

Ode Studios Sarah Sam-304.jpg

How did you and your husband meet?

A long and wild story - but in short, it was at a bull (cattle) sale

How did he propose?

We actually work together on Sam’s family cattle property. So he proposed in a paddock while we were doing our favourite job

What was your vision for your wedding day?

Our biggest goal was for the day to reflect who we are as people and a couple - so two words would be simple, but sophisticated.

Ode Studios Sarah Sam-360.jpg

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

I honestly don’t really know! I suppose ideas came from social media to some extent, mainly in our hunt for a photographer. You see loads of things you like (& don’t) doing that! Other than that though we were probably very lucky- we chose a stunning venue and I feel that we then just wanted to keep it simple & let that do the talking.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I saw the Rita gown in a '“wedding trends- puff sleeves” article from vogue. I just fell in love with it, so I did a google search and found Helen to be the only stockist in Australia. Once I went on their website and social media - I just fell in love with how feminine and elegant their gowns were, so I had to try them! The Rita gown was literally the gown I went to Helen to see, it was the first I tried, and from there nothing compared!

What was your wedding journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

I would say ‘hot & cold’, in a good way though. We were either red hot in the planning phase or putting it on the back burner because we were very busy with work for a lot of last year. That was really nice though, when we did get to wedding stuff it allowed us to get excited, but I also don’t feel like it was all consuming. So in terms of planning, we had a longish engagement, of just over a year. So we looked at the venue almost immediately. Once that was locked in we did the big ticket stuff like booking the band, photographer, florist and obviously the gown, straight away. Then the final details we started only really 2-3 months out.

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

Venue - that really was a big one in being able to set the mood that we wanted for the entire day.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

I suppose the answer to this should be finally calling Sam my husband! But quite honestly, I couldn’t pick one specific thing.

Ode Studios Sarah Sam-312.jpg

Is there anything you would do differently?

I honestly don’t think so, it really was the best day we could have imagined.

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

Be yourself! Do what you know and go with your gut. Doing this allowed me to feel comfortable and really enjoy the day. And most importantly… don’t sweat the small things!

Ode Studios Sarah Sam-486.jpg

I quite honestly always thought I would get my wedding dress custom made, until I found HRB. From my first enquiry to dress delivery, the service I received was truely exceptional. HRB offers a vast variety of gowns, made to the highest quality and kept in immaculate condition; so when you go in for your appointments you really do feel so special. Unlike many bridal boutiques you have the benefit of being able to try on your gown, but then being measured for it to be custom made to fit you perfectly. It really was such a special experience and I couldn’t recommend Helen and her team more highly.

HR Real Bride Mariam wearing Alon Livne White Cherry

Opening.jpg

Bride & Groom: Mariam and Christopher
Planning & Styling: Windwood Events
Gown: Alon Livne from Helen Rodrigues Bridal
Venue: Three Blue Ducks Rosebery
Photography: Lara Hotz Photography
Floral: Boutierre Girls

How did you and your husband meet?

Christopher and I met the old fashioned way swiping right on Tinder five years ago

How did he propose?

Christoper proposed after preparing a very romantic dinner for the two of us at home. When we finished, he pulled out a bottle of champagne and mentioned that he had my favourite watermelon and strawberry cake from Black Star Pastry waiting in the fridge.

I am slightly obsessed with cake and when I went to get it out of the fridge Christopher was down on both knees! He forgot the one knee part.

The choice of cake for our wedding was an easy decision after the proposal.

Cake.jpg

What was your vision for your wedding day?

I didn’t have any ideas on what I wanted our wedding to be, other than a celebration of our love and commitment to each other in front of our family and friends, followed by a big party!

We had been to our venue Three Blue Ducks several times before the wedding and the service had always been great, the food is delicious and there’s room for a dance floor.

We booked vendors such as our DJ Scotty Sax, because he played at a friend’s wedding and was awesome.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

After a lot of late-night Instagram scrolling, I had a very clear idea of how I wanted the wedding to look and had fun creating a style guide for our vendors and pulling together the different elements.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I saw the Alon Livne ‘Cherry’ dress on the Helen Rodrigues Instagram page, and I knew it would be perfect. It was the first dress I tried on simple, elegant and most importantly, easy to dance in!

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

We enjoyed the wedding planning process, I am generally organised, and love a spreadsheet. I started planning 10 months out from the wedding. The first step was to pull together a checklist, timeline and budget. We both know what we like and are decisive so there wasn’t much deliberating and the we had the bulk of the planning completed within the first couple of months.

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

Where to have the wedding. I’m from Melbourne and Christopher is from Glasgow. However, in the end, we decided on having a wedding in Sydney. It’s the city where we met, have most of our shared memories and built a life together in.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

I loved it all! We decided to walk down the aisle together, which is unconventional, but it was amazing to take it all in and experience the moment together. We saw our family and friends expressions of excitement, and tears of happiness as we made our way past them.

Is there anything you would do differently?

No. Obviously it wasn’t perfect, but we had such a wonderful love filled day surrounded by a beautiful circle of family and friends, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Is there any advice you would give our #HRBride’s?

Your wedding is probably the most expensive party you will throw, so do ‘YOU’ - there are no rules…! Make sure you enjoy every moment.

Emerald - A Real Bride Story

46107018_10161095665085290_2543439603596001280_o.jpg

Emerald’s Story

Bride & Groom: Emerald & Frank
Planning & Styling: Susie, from Knot & Pop, London and Coralie from Loli Events, Paris
Gown: Alon Livné Bridal
Venue: The Mona Bismarck American Centre, Paris
Photography: Ryan Murphy (Varga Murphy)
Hair and Makeup: Harold James, Paris
Floral: Florésie
Ring: Olivia Bond Diamonds

How did you and Frank meet?

We had known each other for a while through mutual friends and had an annual flirtation at the pub at Christmas when I came home, but I was living in Paris and he was living in Perth so it never went anywhere. I flew home at the end of 2016 to care for my mum who was ill and ran into him while I was there, we got chatting and had an instant spark. When I flew back to Paris we began speaking lots, and a few weeks later he came to visit me (under the guise of going to see friends in London!). We had a whirlwind 4-day romance, and a few weeks later I came back to Perth to be with my mum again. We started dating and 5 weeks later I fell pregnant (whoops!). I found out a week after my beautiful mum passed away which was heartbreaking, but also lifesaving in a way. She met Frank once before she died and told me she felt happy leaving knowing that I had met my match.

How did Frank propose?

It was a few months after our daughter Queenie was born. My whole family was home for my little brother’s wedding and I hopped out of the shower to find a beautiful ring under my daughter’s arm as she slept, and Frank on one knee. My family was listening outside the door with champagne.

Emerald, your wedding celebrations were curated over a three day period. What did that entail?

Wednesday 25th - We had a civil ceremony at the town hall in the Marais, right near where I lived for 5 years. My friend, who is the current deputy mayor, married us in front of 20 of our closest friends and family in the most hysterical ceremony I have ever attended. We had champagne at the local bar afterwards, followed by an intimate family dinner in a private room at Le Meurice. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and such an incredible memory. I wore an Alexander Rich dress to my civil ceremony, and a white two piece suit designed by my friend Vanessa Cocchiaro of Les Heroines for the dinner, as well as a very special ruby necklace that was my mothers.

Thursday 26th – We held a cocktail party for all of our guests at rooftop bar Le Perchoir. Paris was having an uncharacteristic heatwave and we were all literally sweltering, but it was a really fun night – we were all dancing into the early hours of the morning with the most magical view over the Parisian rooftops. I wore a custom sequinned two piece by local Perth designer Alvin Fernandez.

Saturday 28th – Our wedding day! The girls got ready at the Shangri-La, next door to the venue, and the boys were at our apartment in the Marais. I walked down the aisle at 4.30pm with my brothers and sister as my bridesmaids, my daughter, nephews and nieces as our flower girls and boy, and my Dad on my arm. We chose ‘Dreams’ by the Cranberries as our entry song as it’s the opening song for You’ve Got Mail, that 90s RomCom with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, as we both felt a bit like them during our (very short!) long distance romance. This was followed by cocktails and speeches and then a two course sit-down dinner. For dessert we had a croquembouche tower, éclair tower and choux pastry tower set up outside that everyone could pick off.

For our first dance Frank and I did a tango which was hilarious, and then Love is in the Air came on (I’m a bit of a Strictly Ballroom fan) and all of our guests joined in. We were still dancing at 2am on the shoulders of our friends. We finished with ‘Les Champs-Élysées’ by Joe Dassin and stumbled back to the Shangri-La, shoes in hand.

What was your vision for your wedding day?

I didn’t really have a vision, I hadn’t ever thought about my wedding until Frank proposed. I just knew I wanted it to be in Paris in a beautiful old French building filled with all our closest friends and family, with epic music, food and wine.

46118888_10161095670585290_7976672399535898624_o.jpg

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

Mainly Instagram. I knew what I wanted in terms of flowers as I love anthuriums, but to be honest I left the rest up to Knot & Pop. Susie has the most incredible eye for design, and she even hand-made much of the table setting including the beautiful little salt and pepper pinch pots.

For your wedding day what drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I saw a picture of the gown on Instagram through White Dossier which is a curated bridal page, and I just had to have it. I’m not particularly classical, I wanted something fun (and with sleeves!) and that was the perfect dress for me. I flew to Sydney to try it on, and ordered it then and there!

46315032_10161095662130290_4659518528037060608_o.jpg

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

Frank proposed in December and we got married in July, so we didn’t have a great deal of time to plan an overseas wedding. My whole family was already going to be in Europe for a family holiday at that time, so it made sense to combine the two. Once I got Knot & Pop on board it was all smooth sailing, I had a newborn and not a whole heap of time to dedicate to wedding planning so I was thrilled Susie, and Coralie from Loli Events took over and arranged everything!

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

The venue was the hardest choice. It was fairly late in the game to be planning a wedding in Paris in peak wedding season so the choice was limited. Of course I wanted the venue to be beautiful but I also wanted to make sure we had more control over our suppliers (alcohol, DJ etc) and I wanted to be able to stay and party late into the night.

What was the highlight of your three day wedding festival?

To be honest it was just the most magical week. Every part of it was truly perfect. I got to marry the man I love, in the city I love, surrounded by all the people we love. I just want to relive it again and again.

Is there anything you would do differently?

Yes I wouldn’t have gone on a family holiday to Tuscany the week before I got married! I was the least stressed bride ever, and didn’t think about holding back on the pasta, tiramisu and wine. Three days before my wedding I tried on my dress with my sister and we literally could not do it up!! Needless to say I didn’t eat much in the 48 hours prior to the wedding!

Did you go on a honeymoon and if so where?

We were already in Europe and we had our 10 month old with us, so we just had a few weeks around the English countryside. It was very chilled, but beautiful – travelling changes a lot once kids are involved!

Is there any advise you would give other #HRBride’s?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. The wedding day goes so quickly it is such a waste of time being stressed. All the guests are desperate to celebrate with you and have fun, and no one even notices if little things go wrong.

How has married life being so far?

Not much has changed since our wedding, we already had a baby together so we were pretty settled. We’ve just added to the brood with a rescue pup and a second bub on the way.

Designer Focus Feature: Alon Livne

I always try to keep my gowns timeless and fashion forward - Alon Livne

I always try to keep my gowns timeless and fashion forward - Alon Livne

Helen Rodrigues is renowned for its carefully selected, exclusive collection of exquisite luxury bridal gowns from the most innovative and sought-after international designers around the globe. One brand which has become a highly desired favourite among Australian brides for the past year is Alon Livne White, and so we decided to speak with the designer himself for some exclusive details about the inspiration behind his designs and what we can expect next.

He’s Israel’s most prestigious fashion designer and is favoured by celebrities and fashionistas worldwide; but according to Alon Livne, it was just something that has always been a part of him.

“My mom says that ever since I was a little boy I would draw models in gowns and that absolutely nothing has changed,” he says. His inspiration however, appears to have come from a few different sources.

“On the one hand, I absolutely adored old Hollywood starlets and icons like Grace Kelly, Rita Hayworth and Katharine Hepburn. On the other hand, I was always fascinated by the women of punk-rock like Siouxsie Sioux and Grace Jones. I think this strange, contrasted, mix of inspirations made me the designer I am today.”

At the age of 17, Alon Livne began working in premiere luxury European fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen in London and Roberto Cavalli in Florence, before winning first place in the Israeli version of Project Runway. In high demand following this, he then went out on his own and since 2013 has regularly shown collections at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week which attract much attention far and wide.

“I always try to keep my gowns timeless and fashion forward, never relying on trends and what other people do,” he says, with regards to what defines him as a designer. “When you come to see my designs, you come to be unique and original.”

This is probably why celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Lea Michele, Beyonce and Lady Gaga are all firm fans of Alon Livne and wear his luxurious gowns often. When asked if there are any other stars he would love to work with, the designer is quick to answer:

“I would absolutely love to work with Solange Knowles, I just love her style and overall attitude.”

His outstanding bridal line ‘Alon Livne White’ has also been a global sensation and something that came about quite naturally for the designer.

“I think that ever since I started designing ready-to-wear collections I had white gowns that were really focused towards bridalwear, it was just something I always felt I needed to do,” he says. “I'm now seeing the two lines coming closer in terms of aesthetic, vision and design.”

In the designer’s own words, the Alon Livne bride is “stunning, timeless, bold and original” and we couldn’t agree more.

“I love getting to design gowns that are basically dreams-come-true for women. A lot of girls come up to me and say that they imagined how their wedding gown would be ever since they were little, and that my designs make their childhood fantasy a reality.”

And so what can we expect next from the talented designer?

“With my new 2018 collection I'm really trying to focus on clean, simple designs with unique shapes and details. Kind of stepping away from the over-the-top, sexy-sheer look that has been taking over the bridal scene lately. I think you can expect something truly original and authentic.”

Well we certainly can’t wait and bet our brides can’t either.

Alon Livne White is available exclusively in Australia at Helen Rodrigues. A special Alon Livne Trunk Show will also be taking place this November. Appointments are essential so to book your place, or for any enquiries, please phone the boutique on 02 9904 5700.
