How did you and your husband meet?
For years and years, I kept on saying, “the drums of Africa still beat in my heart…” Then, as if it were written in the stars – my heart led me home in the summer of 2016, where I met Josh in Cape Town and fell in love. We endured an on/off long-distance relationship for a few years, until I finally took the plunge and moved to South Africa to be with him in February of 2020. Unbeknown to us at the time, Covid was about to spiral – and just three weeks later the President of South Africa locked us down, and Australia locked us out.

There, in our very small, unfurnished, empty apartment - where the option to leave home was off limits, our social lives were halted, and travel was restricted; we were put in a situation that could make or break us. Fortunately, we had so much fun and really thrived as a couple.

How did he propose?
Fast forward 2 years, Australians were finally allowed to travel, and my mom visited us from Sydney. Josh asked her, my dad and stepdad’s permission to marry me – and at a casual lunch in his parents’ home to my complete surprise, he proposed. It wasn’t what he had planned as he wanted to propose in Cape Town a few weeks later; but the importance of having a member of my family with me after so long took priority, and it was simply perfect.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?
The process of getting a dress made from scratch wasn’t for me. I’ve always been a lover of high fashion, even working as a personal shopper and stylist when I lived in London; and I always wanted my dress to be the creation of an esteemed designer. Before I even had a boyfriend, I knew I would find my eventual wedding dress at HRB. Helen has the most incredible and most thoughtfully curated selection of top end gowns – it was a no brainer.

I had such a clear vision; my wedding gown was the first I tried. I’m a jeans and white t-shirt girl and always wanted my wedding dress to reflect that and to feel like an elegant ‘white t-shirt’ … very simple, classic but modern, no beading or lace, ‘less is more’ aesthetic. The fabric and fit were my priority, and nobody does this better than Elie Saab. In my opinion the quality, detail and craftsmanship of Elie Saab is unrivalled – so much so, it actually felt as if Mr Saab had made this gown especially for me. It was so perfect.

I was also lucky enough to wear a bespoke Suzanne Neville dress the following night, to our post-wedding Shabbat. A crisp white corset adorned with feathers and flowers – it was the perfect piece for a romantic dinner in the winelands.

What was your vision for your wedding day?
I’ve always wanted a wedding that was tasteful and understated. My vision was to incorporate my love of luxury style with the natural landscape that Cape Town and the Stellenbosch region is known and loved for. I chose soft colours for the floral and décor. A butter yellow baby’s breath chuppah, couches adorned with various Missoni printed cushions – and Missoni zig zags running throughout the wedding… on the tablecloths, bars, dance floor etc. I wanted the venue to speak for itself, with the décor and abundance of floral to just accentuate the already magnificent setting.

The custom linen lamp shades that filled the roof of the marquee only further accentuated the romantic feel we were going for.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?
I was fortunate enough to 1) know exactly what I wanted and 2) have a mom who is a leader in the event and wedding planning industry – so I didn’t have to look anywhere! My mom and I are so in synch and had lots of chats and discussed what I wanted and how it could be executed. The fact Josh and his parents trusted us both 100% made it even easier – as we could make all the decisions without having to run them by anyone.

In terms of initial vision, I think Josh and I drew inspiration from the setting and from our love of the country in which we were getting married. Our goal was for our wedding to reflect us as a couple – from the look to the feel, to the vibe. Everything was so perfectly executed to enable this; and from our guests’ feedback, I think we nailed that goal.

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

We started planning probably 8 months ahead of the actual wedding day – once we had confirmed our most important overseas family members could all travel to South Africa to be there with us on our chosen date.

I would say the journey was quite seamless, except for the fact we had to manage cross-city and cross-continent hurdles. It was the logistics that posed the biggest challenges for us. Josh and I lived in Johannesburg, chose to get married in Cape Town and use suppliers from there, and my family and our wedding planner (my mother) were all in Sydney – as were the chosen caterers, photographers etc. The international time difference was frustrating and there were many early morning / late night zoom calls throughout the organisation period.

What was the biggest decision you had to make?
We wanted to incorporate some of the Sydney suppliers and professionals who work alongside my mom in the industry, and who have literally known me since I was a little girl and watched me grow up. To fly everyone across the globe is both logistically and financially challenging so we had to make choices. Big decisions pay off. Our day would not have been the same if not for the hard work, skills, and attention to detail that the Sydney contingent brought.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

There were two moments that really stood out for me. The most unforgettable of all was without a doubt the moment Josh and I saw each other for the first time. There is a custom in Jewish religion whereby the bride and groom separate for a week before the wedding, with no communication.

On the wedding day, I got ready with all my female friends and family and the important women in my life, and Josh did the same. We then made our way to the Bedekin; the veiling ceremony – which takes place right before the chuppah. After a week apart and all the built-up stress and excitement, and without being able to talk to or see each other, our closest friends and family sang us to that moment where we locked eyes and were reunited. It was beyond special. The Bedekin is always my favourite part of any wedding; and the love, happiness, atmosphere and spirituality that emanated ours will stay cherished in my memory always.

The moment we walked into the marquee was also a highlight. You can plan and plan so that the song is perfect, the room looks perfect, everything is perfect. What you can’t plan is the energy from your guests and the vibe they bring. As we walked in, the entire room of guests swarmed into the middle of the marquee and surrounded us in a mosh pit – and what was meant to be one entrance song turned into a ten- or so-minute rave before we even sat down! The mood was absolutely electric, and I remember Josh and I looked at each other and said “what is going on!?” It was unbelievable.

Is there anything you would do differently?

Not a thing. Our wedding day was so perfect. It was incredible feeling the love from family and friends and each other – and the vibe was better than we could have even imagined. It was electric because our wedding was one hundred percent, authentically us – and nothing was contrived or forced in any way. We made sure to stay true to ourselves as a couple and the things we love and put value on; and this was felt in every way.

In terms of my experience as a bride – they say you want to look back in 20 years at your wedding photos and have no regrets. I know this will be the case… not to mention I felt like an absolute princess in my dresses!

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

In terms of the dress – whether you go in with a vision or not, make sure to choose a dress that feels true to you. My advice is to not try to be different on your wedding day – and to not choose ‘a trend.’ It’s possibly the most important day to date where you should look and feel wholeheartedly, entirely you.

In terms of the wedding – so many of our married friends told us to take a moment at the wedding, walk away, and look back at what we had created. We made sure to do this – and it was unbelievable to see the joy, love and enthusiasm that surrounded us. The day goes so fast; and this moment enabled us to just pause, and take it all in.

More significant though I would advise any bride-to-be to remember that the wedding day is just one day – it’s the marriage that is most important. Try not get worked up about small details and focus on the big picture and exciting future ahead. It is all about love after all.

I loved my experience with HRB from start to finish. Helen is so warm and honest, and she understood what I wanted in terms of look and feel. I trusted her throughout the process wholeheartedly. Even despite me living overseas, she was so accommodating in scheduling appointments and fittings to work with my short visits to Sydney. She really was there for it all - even putting my dress in the boot of the car when I went to collect it that final day!

Honestly, I might need to talk to my husband into having some sort of anniversary party just so I can relive my HRB process. I’ve been looking at the latest range of dresses Helen’s bringing in – and the new season pieces are making me fall in love all over again!

How did you and your husband meet?

We’re high school sweethearts. We met 11 years ago, at a mutual friend’s 18th birthday.

How did he propose?

Sam proposed after we’d been for a morning swim at one of our favourite spots in Sydney, Camp Cove.

What was your vision for your wedding day?

Growing up with a big, close family, I always imagined getting married at home. Being together since high school, my family would often joke about Sam and I having our wedding on the tennis court and then we made it happen! During our relationship we spent time living in Hong Kong together, with separate travels in China, France and South Africa - we wanted our day to represent how much we love home, as well as our appreciation for the places we’ve been.

Where did you look for your wedding gown inspiration?

Bridal style is really unlike any other. I like to be fairly understated day to day and had originally found a simple silk dress during lockdown. We were fortunate to ultimately not be affected by any COVID restrictions around our wedding date. With the larger day we were able to plan to share with our friends and family, I looked for a dress that would complement the occasion.

I was also inspired by the bridal looks of my mother and grandmother. There is a family tradition of having bridal wedding day photos taken in front of my great grandmother’s dressing table. When I was imagining myself in a wedding dress, I kept coming back to how elegant they looked and I was hoping to channel the same as the next generation.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I’ve always admired the architecture in Elie Saab’s designs and some of the exceptional women that have been drawn to wearing them throughout history - I was looking for something elegant but modern, that suited my shape. I thought the detail in the bodice of my gown ticked all of these boxes and more - I never expected to wear a dress with such length in the train and volume in the skirt but I felt so incredibly special in it. I thought if there was a time to go all out and embrace a true gown - this was it!

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

We were only engaged for 9 months before we got married - after 11 years of being together, our families were keen to start planning straight after the proposal! Having the reception at home, there was a lot to consider in setting it up as a venue. Sam and I are based in Sydney and sometimes it was challenging not being there on the ground at home in Brisbane to feel it all coming to life. I’m lucky my Mum is really creative, has amazing attention to detail and she was the ultimate project manager.

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

Due to heavy rainfall in the weeks leading up to our wedding date, a week out we made the call to move the ceremony to St Augustine’s Church, just down the road from home. We were so fortunate they were still free that day! A number of logistical changes flowed but all of our suppliers were fantastic and the church looked exceptional. It was also special to us both as Sam’s parents were married there too. The weather on the day turned out to be perfect but the venue change ultimately took away any stress we might have had in the days leading up.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

Sam’s vows - he blew me away. He can be very practical, having studied engineering and commerce and working in finance, but he loves to be creative when he can be. He put so much thought into his words - they were poetry. The whole day was so full of love!

Is there anything you would do differently?

Just little things. I only had my hair trial the week of the wedding…I probably could have thought about what I really wanted a bit more. I’d schedule make-up top ups with my bridesmaids during the night too - I was giving so many people kisses, at one point I barely had any left on! I’d also plan out the photos a bit better to have more with guests.

Helen Rodrigues doesn’t only stock the most exceptional bridal designers available in Australia, she also offers an unparalleled experience while remaining real and down to earth. Helen and Sophie were considered and calm (and a bit of fun too!) during my dress selection, trying and fitting process.

With my Mum unable to visit and see the dress in person due to the border closures at the time, it was special to have such a warm connection with Helen. With decades of experience, Helen gave me so much confidence with her authenticity and thoughtfulness throughout the process. I loved my dress and it fit perfectly.

How did you and your husband meet?

We met on Stakes Day at Flemington Racecourse in 2015, at the end of the day heading towards the buses back into town we ended up getting sat next to each other and chatted the entire way. Booked a dinner in for the following we and the rest was history!

How did he propose?

He proposed on Christmas Eve 2019 at our fav restaurant. We had celebrated every anniversary, birthday and just random occasions there previously. We went in early under the guise of buying a cookbook for a family member for Christmas but when we got in there were balloons and flowers and next thing I knew he was down on one knee

What was your vision for your wedding day?

We wanted our guests to think “Yep that’s very Ed & Ed”. Very romantic in parts but also very light. We found an amazing mix with the ceremony outside part being very traditional and elegant and then when guests went into the marquee it was like walking into a restaurant, which is exactly what we love doing, we love long boozy dinners and we wanted the marquee to feel like the best restaurant you’ve ever been to.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

With the help of the style co we found colour inspiration in our own photos. We scrolled back and found some colours that we always were drawn to and started from there. We’re always wearing a colour or print and it seemed fitting for the colours to be a little on the bolder side. We also wanted to show off my parents farm, they have the most fantastic garden with roses and greenery so it was fitting for us to flow with the venue instead of changing it.

The wedding was also on New Years Eve, so we figured if we’re going to have a wedding then, we have to make it the best new years eve party anyone has ever been too. We had a bit of a switch from 11:30pm from wedding to NYE party and had confetti and champagne sparklers.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I always knew I wanted to wear Elie Saab. I had admired his work for years and naturally googled Elie Saab Wedding dress when we got engaged and Helen Rodrigues came up. Mum and I booked a very last min trip to Sydney just when the pandemic was starting and found the dress straight away.

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

Well I have a husband who Is extremely organised and loves planning so that helps! We would not have been able organise the wedding without the help of our amazing wedding planners, The Style Co who helped create the vision we wanted. Originally we started 12 months out however once we changed dates it ended up being 18 months.

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

Honestly, we didn’t have to make too many. We both were on the same page form the start so there was not disagreeing or decision making to be had

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

The feeling, which sounds strange but the feeling I had all day and night was incredible. I was content and happy and could feel so much love from not only my husband but everyone there.

Is there anything you would do differently?

Change the weather! It was 39 degrees and very sunny! I truly wouldn’t change a thing but I do wish it was a little cooler.

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

Don’t overthink things!

I cannot speak highly enough of my experience at Helen Rodrigues.

I had my eye on this specific gown from Elie Saab for a while however wanted to try on a few different styles to make sure I had picked the right one. Having multiple world-renowned bridal designers and various styles in the store allowed me to try on an array of dresses to help me make up my mind. The moment I saw myself in this dress I knew it was the one. We got married on New Year's Eve so I wanted to make sure my dress had some sequins to go along with the theme.

Throughout the many lockdowns and times of confusion, Helen was able to store my dress until my Mum and I were able to fly to Sydney to collect it. Every aspect was super professional and organised and coming to Sydney for 2 days while we had the final dress fittings was a really fun time for us.

I cannot recommend Helen highly enough and I think it's very clear that many brides also feel the same way.

How did you and your husband meet?

We met while at work. He asked me out everyday for one week to go out with him, while I kept saying no. Then I gave in and we went on our first date. He was very persistent and still is! A quality I do love about him.

How did he propose?

When we first met, I had told August how Hayman Island would be a beautiful weekend away… to have a break! Little did I know, the weekend he booked for a break turned into him proposing. I had booked all these activities to fit into our 4 day getaway. We arrived on the Friday afternoon after flying in from Sydney, I had planned a sunset picnic on the beach, however as their was a cyclone not to far away from us the picnic was scrapped! As we arrived to our room, August dashed off to organise something else as he knew I had put thought into our weekend, I kept telling him don’t worry we will just have a quiet night in the room and order room service. He literally made me get ready in 30 minutes! As we walked to what I thought was dinner, he diverted us to go to the beach. As we arrived to the cabana on the beach, he had organised for us to have drinks before dinner, he popped the bottle of champagne, turned to me and said “wouldn’t this be a beautiful spot to propose”. Now I look back I feel horrible my response of “oh yeah but we aren’t even thinking of that” as I turned to say this, he was down on one knee with a ring box and asked me to marry him. I kept him waiting on his knee for about 5 minutes before I said yes.

What was your vision for your wedding day?

We both wanted something very intimate with just our immediate family and close, close friends. We also wanted to keep it very classic, minimal and execute all the details well.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

Working in the industry, I already knew what I wanted. I was very particular on the suppliers we had. The florist had a brief of 5 different types of flowers to use, our cake supplier who has made all our family celebration cakes for years, I told her the design I wanted and I let her pick the flavour! I told our singer + DJ there was only one song that was a non negotiable for us, the rest I felt up to them. Working both behind and in front of the scenes with events, helped me cross out a lot of things couples do, so I think knowing what I wanted already helped. Everything in the end I had chosen was still a reflection of us as a couple.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I had no intention the day I walked into Helen, I would try the dress that would be my dream dress. I hadn’t done much research before having my first appointment with Helen, yet I knew she was the only stockist of Elie Saab in Australia. I had admired Mr Saab’s gowns for years, from watching celebrities walk down the red carpet to seeing bride’s on Instagram in his gowns, I knew they were something special.

I remember saying to Helen, I wanted to look beautiful and look like a bride. Looking at our photo’s now, my dress encompassed everything I wanted to look on my wedding day. It is so unique. I honestly just want to keep wearing it every single day.

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

We only had 8 months to plan, yet as we knew what we wanted I had everything confirmed quite quickly. Waiting for the church approval took a while, but once we had that the rest was booked within a month. I didn’t waste any time! When we went into lockdown in June, I wasn’t worried and kept positive the whole way through. I basically moved over 50 weddings and events during that time for all my clients, however I kept continuing to plan ours. Everyone else around us too was BEYOND stressed and nervous my dress wouldn’t arrive, but I had complete faith it would. I reached out to Helen roughly a month out from the wedding just to make sure my dress was on track and it was!

Everything worked out for us, and it all came together!

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

Picking a date for 2021 or 2022.

We didn’t want to postpone either and I remember saying to my mother in law “the wedding is happening” I refused to entertain the idea of postponing!

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

The whole day was a highlight, you only get married once!! I did have two stand outs though.

Seeing my Dad see me in my dress for the first time, 7 months prior my nan had passed away so we asked Helen if we could stitch one of her initials from her handkerchief into my dress. This was so special, as I showed my nan a photo of the dress a week before she passed.

The second would be walking down the aisle with my Dad to August. Ask anyone in my family, they all knew I wanted to get married at St Mary’s Cathedral from a young age. It was a dream come true. To see August at the end of the aisle was even more special.

Is there anything you would do differently?

Definitely not. Everything was perfect. I keep looking at our photo’s wanting to relive that day all over again. Just to wear my dress again mainly!

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

I always say “it will always work out in the end and if it doesn’t, it isn’t the end”

Keep faith, have hope and stay positive!

When it comes to your gown, as Helen said to me, you have to imagine the location of your wedding and your gown has not not only embody your style but it has to embody the location of your wedding.

Don’t try to many gowns on and bring a small group to your appointment. Having shared this experience with my Mum and sister, they were the only two I needed!

Both Helen and Sophie treat you like you are part of their family. From the first appointment walking into the shop, it felt like I was walking into home. You are at ease, you don’t feel overwhelmed, you don’t feel rushed to make any decisions and you automatically trust their expertise and knowledge. I think what sets Helen apart is, she genuinely is on this personal experience with you the entire way. She gets to know her brides, she makes every appointment so memorable and personal, you just want to stay in the shop for longer to chat! It is so special to know Helen and Sophie will always be part of your wedding journey, something that you will cherish forever.

How did you and your husband meet?

Online

How did he propose?

During the initial COVID-19 lockdown at home. He gave me my birthday presents in the morning and then surprised me with a proposal and (surprise) engagement ring.

EmmaJeremy-580.JPG

What was your vision for you wedding day?

A fun, relaxing day for everyone to enjoy. Traditional with some surprise elements that reflects us.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I have always loved to look in the store window and admire the gowns, and when we became engaged I knew I couldn’t choose my dress without visiting the store. I had looked at the dress online, and there were so many beautiful dresses there, but when I tried on my dress it just felt right. Classic, elegant and timeless.

What was the wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

So much of the planning was driven by the restrictions and uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. We felt very lucky to be able to get married with our friends and family there - and didn’t take this for granted during the entire process. Planning a wedding during the pandemic made us focus on the important things.

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

How many people to invite - the changing restrictions meant that we had to uninvite guests and couldn’t have everyone there that we would have wish to.

EmmaJeremy-614.JPG

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

The wedding ceremony itself, and our first dance.

Is there anything you would do differently?

No

EmmaJeremy-664.JPG

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

Choose the dress that you makes you feel great - I think there is a difference between a beautiful dress, and a dress that you feel beautiful wearing.

The entire process from choosing the gown to dress fittings and adjustments was seamless (not literally!). We always felt very welcome, and the HR team went above and beyond to coordinate with the dress designer to make adjustments to the dress so that I could wear it on the day comfortably. I would have no hesitation in recommending Helen Rodrigues.

How did you and your husband meet?

We met at the University of Denver in Colorado. We had a mutual best friend and have now been together for 9 years.

How did he propose?

He was in Sydney for work and I met him for a long weekend in Byron Bay. He had arranged a picnic on the beach and a photographer. It was absolutely perfect!

Kate Roberge Photography_Alice + John-95.jpg

What was your vision for your wedding day?

The main thing we wanted was for it to be very fun and relaxed, for not only us but the guests also. Our vision for how it looked was very clean white flowers with plenty of greenery.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

Mainly on Instagram and Pinterest

Kate Roberge Photography_Alice + John-181.jpg

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I was interested in a particular Elie Saab dress and was desperate to try it on. Elie Saab isn’t sold in New Zealand so I had to fly to Sydney.

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

It was fairly quick. We got engaged in September, chose our venue that same month and bought the wedding dress the next month, and were married a few months later! We were incredibly lucky in many ways, Helen arranged for Elie Saab to do the dress in time and our date was available. Everything else just fell into place.

Kate Roberge Photography_Alice + John-505.jpg

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

We struggled alot with the invitations, as they took quite long to design, print and send.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

It was so much fun I loved every bit of it. Getting ready with my closest friends and then walking down the aisle to John. I loved the drama of wearing such a fun big dress and seeing everyone’s reactions. The dinner was delicious and dancing afterwards was the best.

Kate Roberge Photography_Alice + John-473.jpg

Is there anything you would do differently?

No not at all! I cannot imagine it any differently!

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

Have fun while choosing your dress! My mother and I went around the corner for a glass of champagne before purchasing and it was wonderful! Helen was so lovely and helpful after we explained how quickly we wanted a dress.

How did you and your husband meet?

He interviewed me for a role at his firm in September 2013. I got the dream job, although it took another couple of years to find the dream man ;)

How did he propose?

He surprised me while on our stay at Qualia, Hamilton Island. It was New Years Eve - he organised a helicopter to take us to Whitehaven Beach where he had a picnic all laid out. Before I could pop the champagne, he got down on one knee and opened a ring box with the most beautiful diamond. It was the perfect way to celebrate and ‘ring in’ the New Year!

Photo 5-5-20, 12 55 26.jpg

What was your vision for your wedding day?

An elegant black-tie event surrounded by our nearest and dearest at a timeless Melbourne venue. As soon as we stepped into St Patrick’s Cathedral and saw the incredible stained glass ceiling in the Great Hall at the NGV, everything just fell into place.

Where did you look for wedding inspiration?

I bought so many magazine and looked online as I’m sure all brides do, but I knew what I wanted for our wedding day - classic white elegance, complemented by glowing candles and the smell of fresh flowers. When we met our stylist, Fleur McHarg, she brought that vision to life and made it our own with an amazing large scale light and greenery installation above the dance floor, velvet lounge bench seating with overhanging custom lamps, mirrored free standing bars amongst the seated guests, and a series of changing black and white projected images up against the walls of the Great Hall. What Fleur created, with only a two hour bump in, we will never forget!

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

Helen Rodrigues was always a must. I flew to Sydney to see one of her gorgeous trunk shows and had my eye on a couple of dresses from another international designer. But when trying those on instore, I caught myself looking over my shoulder at a stunning sheer long sleeved gown, delicately embellished with a beautiful white leather belt - it screamed Elie Saab. For me, I instantly knew it was ‘the dress’ by the feeling I had while wearing it. You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. It was love at first sight and the last gown I tried on.

What was your wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

Very relaxed and a lot of fun! We had wonderful suppliers who made the decisions along the way so easy. We met with them regularly throughout the whole process, which made it an enjoyable experience and I can truly say we made some friends for life. It also helped that we gave ourselves plenty of time to plan the day (16 months), and my fiance was there at every appointment. That was really important to me and made it all the more special.

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

The guest list and seating arrangement. My husband comes from a big Italian family, so we had over 350 invited guests. A lot of time (and wine) went into the seating chart!

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

Seeing my fiance for the first time, standing there at the end of the aisle. We had a cathedral ceremony at St Patrick’s in East Melbourne, with church bells, a full choir and organ accompaniment. It was magical. The location was also perfect as it allowed us to get some amazing shots while walking over to the iconic Melbourne Town Hall. We even had some time to have a laugh and bubbles with our bridal party outside Grossi Florentino and enjoy the beautiful Autumn day.

Is there anything you would do differently?

Honestly, no. Though I wish we could have squeezed in another set with the band! We had the very suave Dan Hamill and his band perform. As soon as the formalities were over, our guests didn’t leave the dance floor. We loved seeing all of our family and friends having a great time together.

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBRide’s?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. There will be things that don’t go to plan on the day, but I promise none of your guests will have the faintest idea. Enjoy every moment and spend as much of it hand in hand with your groom.

From the first appointment to the final fitting, everything was seamlessly timed, and I felt so at ease, which meant a lot to me being an interstate bride. Helen Rodrigues and her team provided such a warm, genuine and personalised service. I would highly recommend Helen Rodrigues to any bride in search for a breathtakingly timeless gown and an exceptional experience.

How did you and your husband meet?

I believe it was real luck… Andrea, my husband was relocated to Sydney Australia for a job opportunity and one day on his walk home he strolled into a newly opened Italian restaurant, where the owner kindly welcomed him and invited him for lunch… At this very lunch Andrea met his best friend Jared who quickly called me and said “Hannah I’ve met your husband!” The rest is history!

How did he propose?

We were on holiday in Liguria, Italy, where we sailed to a tiny beach that is only reachable by boat! The stunning San Fruttuoso has a castle that melts into the sea, set on a pebbly beach with a little taverna… forever a very special place for us! As we arrived we swam and as I came out of the sea I spotted a box on the beach chair… It was such an incredible place to share the excitement.

What was your vision for your wedding day?

From the beginning of planning our wedding, I knew I wanted it to be classic, romantic and fairy-tale like. It also needed to connect to the place while stilling very true to us and our aesthetic.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

Having my own clothing label, Hannah Artwear I do a lot of work with textiles in India, using natural materials and drawing inspiration from florals. Our wedding was definitely influenced by Hannah Artwear… the pastel colours, natural fabrics and textiles. I made all the stationery, table fabrics and gifts at my factory in Rajasthan. It was such an amazing experience to give my wedding my personal creative touch and I loved the process so much! I remember taking a minute on my wedding day to look around and appreciate all the details, the lights and the magic in the air!

For your wedding day what drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

The very first time I walked into Helen Rodrigues I spotted my gown instantly… its as if there was a magnetic pull that brought us together! It was the first gown I tried on and like most things with me, I knew right away it was the perfect gown! The fit and construction of Elie Saab is another league of its own and I really appreciate that especially being in the industry. The dress I chose is so classic and elegant. I loved the subtle embroidery and detailing.

What was the wedding planning journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

We planned everything from Australia which was so easy and enjoyable as our planner Daniela was fantastic, she made the whole process beyond smooth and stress-free! In 9 months we planned everything together. Andreas family was also a huge help being in Italy, they found the wedding venue for us and manage a lot of other things as we were so far away in Aus!

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

Probably the location… I think choosing a place that you feel connected to and love is really important. We knew we were going to have a big wedding and so wanted a place that has a sense of space. We also wanted to base the weekend out of Milan as its the place Andrea grew up and holds a special meaning and significance.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

The beginning to the end! Really I think the ceremony was the most emotional moment of my life! I will never ever forget the moment holding onto my parents as they walked me down the isle… surrounded by my family and friends from around the world, walking towards Andrea, the man of my dreams.

Is there anything you would do differently?

Nothing at all!

Is there any advice you would give to other #HRBride’s?

Just enjoy the process, don’t take any of it too seriously, and remember that the only thing that matters is you and your husband!
